Guide to Langkawi

A magical tropical island in Malaysia
Langkawi is a tropical paradise that instantly makes you forget about everyday life. An archipelago of 99 islands off the northwest coast of Malaysia, it combines pristine beaches, dense rainforest, and dramatic mountain landscapes in one stunning place.
The island is famous for its duty-free status, which makes shopping here genuinely enjoyable. But the real treasure of Langkawi is its nature — lush jungles, mangrove forests, and the crystal-clear waters of the Andaman Sea stretching to the horizon.
The best way to get around Langkawi is by renting a scooter or car. The main tourist areas are Pantai Cenang and Pantai Tengah in the south, while the cable car and Sky Bridge are in the northwest. Kuah is the administrative center with the famous Eagle Square.
Langkawi Nature: UNESCO Geopark
Langkawi was Southeast Asia's first UNESCO-recognized Geopark. The island encompasses geological formations that are 550 million years old, primary tropical forests, and exceptional biodiversity. You will see white-bellied sea eagles soaring above the bays, macaque monkeys inhabiting the jungle, and countless bird species. The nature here is alive and authentic in a way rarely found on tourist islands.
Orkid Ria is one of our favourite seafood restaurants in Langkawi. You can choose fresh fish, prawns, squid, and crab directly from the tank and have them cooked however you prefer.
Tables overlooking the sea directly are the best, so we recommend arriving early to claim one. The atmosphere here is unbeatable — sea breeze, the sound of waves, and the smell of grilled seafood.
A refined Japanese restaurant in a beautiful location overlooking the sea. The menu features sushi, tempura, sashimi, and classic Japanese dishes prepared to a very high standard. The place is small, intimate, and quiet — far from the noise of the tourist areas.
The service is attentive and the food is presented beautifully. We recommend booking in advance as the number of tables is limited.
Chuan Bar Izakaya is a fantastic place for a fun evening out. The atmosphere is relaxed and lively, and the menu features a good variety of Asian dishes and interesting drinks. It is a favourite among both locals and tourists.
We recommend coming in the evening to experience the atmosphere at its best. You can sit outside or inside depending on your preference.

Holiday Villa Resort is an excellent choice for accommodation on Pantai Tengah. The location is ideal — directly on the beach with an infinity pool and stunning sea views. There are good facilities for both children and adults, and the on-site restaurant offers decent quality.
The location is perfect for exploring the southern part of the island. Walking to the Pantai Cenang area takes around 10 minutes.
The best time to visit Langkawi is from November to April, when the weather is dry and sunny. From May to October is the rainy season, but showers are usually short and the island stays wonderful. We highly recommend renting a scooter — it is the best way to discover all the hidden corners of this paradise island at your own pace.
