When approaching Santiago, be prepared to see the snow-capped peaks of the Andes. The capital is surrounded by mountains on almost all sides. We enjoyed the sunsets, which painted everything in a Martian red light.
Chile is one of the leading countries in South America in terms of economic indicators. We were expecting to see a developed city with an endless number of stylish and fashionable establishments. Imagine our surprise that in Santiago this is completely undeveloped. In the city center, the lower floors are closed with bars, and the walls are painted with graffiti. This affects the feeling of insecurity. In several supermarkets, we even met sales consultants in bulletproof vests. But to be honest, we did not encounter any problems and enjoyed the city.
At the same time, the city has a lot of stylish modern new buildings, as well as beautiful architectural buildings.

Plaza de Armas
Sights
The very center of the city
The sightseeing starts here. The square is very lively. There are a lot of people here. We even met groups that were loudly discussing something and voting.
A historic building where the parliament used to work. It currently functions as a historical site that cannot be missed when walking around the center.
This stylish architectural building is located in the financial district of Santiago. It is very pleasant to walk here and enjoy the cleanliness and beauty.
A government building with a tall flag in front of it. Under the square is a cultural center. And the square itself is surrounded by monumental, boring buildings.
A cozy green area in the center of Santiago. Beautiful historical buildings with ancient architecture, a fountain, a park and a great observation deck. A nice place, we recommend it.
From here you will have a wonderful view of Santiago and the surrounding mountains. In addition, you will find yourself in one of the foothills of the Andes. Definitely worth it! There is a funicular that goes here, and inside there is a huge park.
Santiago is a very controversial city, but it certainly has its charm. We recommend you stay here for 2-3 days before going on a tour of the natural attractions of Chile.
